Shipbuilders Judge 22nd Annual Norfolk Public Schools Science & Engineering Fair

Published March 4, 2026

On Saturday, Feb. 21, science fair winners from each elementary and middle school in Norfolk descended on Old Dominion University for the citywide Science & Engineering Fair. Students presented their projects to Newport News shipbuilders in rotating one-on-one presentations while being graded from a rubric. The students’ scientific investigations were evaluated on subject knowledge, scientific method, results, elocution and presentation skills.

Sarah Linthicum (E83) was grateful for the chance to be part of the students’ learning experience.

“The third graders I judged were incredibly bright for their age, and I hope they continue staying curious, asking questions and exploring science in the years ahead,” she said.

Shipbuilders can find volunteer opportunities on the K18 homepage.
