Newport News shipbuilders James Holland (X18), Barry Lemmons (X42), Gavin Herzog (X42) and Bryan Casey (X18) were recognized by their leadership for installing four essential pumps in less than 24 hours.

The job supported a critical key evolution for USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74), which is currently undergoing refueling and complex overhaul (RCOH).

“You all were a huge contributing factor in getting us to the next step with these pumps,” Operations Superintendent Erick Bowden (X10) said. “I wasn’t expecting you guys to turn them around that fast. The fit-up and weld of 12 joints in one night – that is truly remarkable and a testament to your hard work. It makes me smile to see shipbuilders display a level of urgency we need to meet the demands of our programs.”

General Foreman Ron Tyler (K46) added, “I’ve seen how these guys operate on a day-to-day basis. This was the team for the job.”

“You come to work and see other people getting after it,” Herzog said. “It makes you feel like there’s more you can give, and I hope this has that impact on others. We take pride in doing what had to be done to see this job finished.”
