Two shipbuilders from Newport News Shipbuilding’s Apprentice School were selected as Outstanding Apprentices of the Year for 2022 by the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry’s Division of Registered Apprenticeship. The annual conference was held Jan. 26 at Brightpoint Community College in Chester.

The honor recognizes apprentices who have excelled in their respective programs in the areas of accuracy and efficiency; cooperation with supervisors and journeymen; initiative; leadership; decision-making ability; and outstanding accomplishments.

The two NNS apprentices selected for 2022 are:

• Jessica Lawson, welder
• Vincent Magomedov, outside machinist

The Apprentice School also received Service and High Volume Sponsor awards.
