Shipbuilders Steering the Way

Chelly Perè (O53) and Chuck Epps Jr. (O53) were honored with Level One On-the-Spot Ethics awards for taking action after a woman was found seriously injured in the parking lot of a Newport News Shipbuilding facility.
In February, Perè and another NNS employee who did not want to be named, found a woman – who was not affiliated with NNS – suffering from serious injuries in the parking lot of Bldg. 872. After calling 911, Perè notified Epps – O53 second-shift supervisor – while the other employee covered the woman with a blanket from his vehicle. Epps notified NNS Security and O53 leadership.
Perè comforted the injured woman and talked to her until she was transported to a hospital. Epps ensured other employees remained in the building and away from the scene. Both employees assisted in the investigation by answering questions from Hampton police and NNS Security.
Cullen Glass, vice president of Supply Chain Management, met with the employees to present their awards and thank them for their actions.
