Shipbuilders Take National Stage Sharing Stories of Strength

Two Newport News shipbuilders recently took to national television to share their personal stories of strength and perseverance.
On May 28, Jordan Lloyd (X40) sat with his daughter Noah and television host Jennifer Hudson to discuss a video the two filmed that went viral. In the video, Lloyd had an encouraging discussion with Noah about her vitiligo, a skin condition that causes a loss of color in patches of skin, and the struggles she may face as she moves into kindergarten. “I am beautiful,” Noah said. Lloyd proudly responded “And you always stand on that.”
Reflecting on the moment and the show, Lloyd said “This experience opened up a new world for my daughter and me. You never know where a genuine conversation can take you.”
On June 2, Nyjle Henry’s (T55) American Ninja Warrior run aired on NBC. The run was recorded when he competed in season 17 in September 2024. The show features obstacle courses that require incredible strength, endurance and mental fortitude. Conquering the course is no easy feat. This was Henry’s third time on the show, returning after competing in seasons 14 and 15.
If you missed the run on NBC, you can stream it on Peacock.
