Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness

Newport News shipbuilders from various Quality departments came together on Oct. 15 to promote National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Robert Pugh (O06), said, “I support breast cancer awareness to remind those affected that they are not alone.”

Several employees participated in Pink Out Day and wore pink. “I coordinated this event as an engagement opportunity to have different Quality groups raise awareness about a disease that has touched so many people in various ways,” said Monica Schnautz (O06). “Also, it allowed new members of the Quality Department to network and share their experiences.”

A thought wall allowed employees to share their feelings and inspirations.

“This October, I had the idea of being able to write something in honor of someone or themselves or just putting up a blank butterfly in support of breast cancer awareness,” said Larissa Patton (K23). “When you take a step back and look at everyone who has been impacted, it’s very unifying. Nobody fights alone.”
