Technical Graduate Partnership (TGP) Programs

Published April 15, 2026

Newport News Shipbuilding’s Technical Graduate Partnership (TGP) Program is a partnership with leading universities developed to address NNS core business needs, identified discipline challenge areas and known customer technology gaps. The program recognizes the challenge a shipbuilder endures when pursuing a technical degree and is designed to mitigate certain known challenges.

NNS partners with four universities for a total of seven graduate degree programs. One of these four universities, Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), is conducting an information session at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, in the VASCIC auditorium.

VCU programs of study involved in the partnership include Masters of Science in mechanical and nuclear engineering with concentrations in either nuclear engineering or mechanical design for nuclear shipbuilding.

TGP benefits include:

  • Completion of a master’s degree in three years.
  • Special tuition treatment and inclusive of all costs.
  • Class scheduling, location and logistics especially suited for NNS working professionals.
  • Execution of the program as a team (cohort) of NNS working professionals.
  • A technical master’s degree in programs specifically selected as vital to NNS technical bench strength.
  • Special consideration for acceptance into the partnership universities.
