They Took Action When a Food Truck Caught Fire at NNS
Published January 11, 2023
When a vendor food truck caught fire last week in Newport News Shipbuilding’s North Yard, shipbuilders and contractors working in the area didn’t hesitate to respond. Their quick actions allowed them to extinguish the fire before emergency responders were on scene and aid two injured food truck employees.
X36 Foreman Ronnie Hall, forklift driver Matt Hall (X36) and pipe welder Clinton Conner (X18) rushed to the scene with fire extinguishers along with Marcus O’Neil, Michael Hootman, Ricky Martin and Charles Goetz – who are contractors working on a nearby building.
Karey Malyszko, vice president of Plant Operations, and Dave Horne, senior director of Trades, hosted a recognition luncheon last Thursday to thank the team for taking action.
