Timekeeping Audit Expectations

Published November 12, 2025

Timekeeping audits are conducted daily to ensure shipbuilders understand the expectations of NNS policy SSO 10-403, Time Collection and Attendance Reporting. These audits may be performed by NNS Dept. O73 Labor Compliance, Corporate’s Internal Audit department or external agencies such as the Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) and Supervisor of Shipbuilding of Newport News (SSNN).

During the timekeeping audit, shipbuilders are asked standard questions about their current work, job charging, direct versus indirect labor, productive versus non-productive labor, time certifications and where to find the NNS timekeeping policy.

At the conclusion of the audit, shipbuilders may also be asked to provide a copy of their current pay period’s timesheet from MyTime through their supervisor. Accurate timekeeping is not only a company requirement but also a government expectation. The time you record is considered an official record, meaning auditors may request to review and verify it for an audit. By following proper charging practices and being familiar with company policies, shipbuilders help ensure compliance during these timekeeping audit reviews.
