Update on USW Labor Negotiations

Published November 14, 2021

Dear Shipbuilders,

Newport News Shipbuilding has been in collective bargaining with the United Steelworkers Local 8888 since September to establish a new contract that will replace the current one when it expires at midnight on Sunday, Nov. 14. Today, I am pleased to announce that a tentative agreement with the United Steelworkers has been reached.

While the details of the agreement cannot be shared publicly until after a vote, our goal was to offer a contract that is fair to our workforce, recognizes the key contributions of our USW employees, attracts new hires and retains our current workforce.

The United Steelworkers will share the offer with eligible employees and conduct voting next week. Our workforce will continue working under a contract extension during the voting process. Once the votes have been counted, the outcome will be communicated.

Employees with questions about the offer or the voting process should contact their local union representatives.

Respectfully,
Jennifer Boykin
President
Newport News Shipbuilding
