Volunteer for NNS’ Earth Day Cleanup

Newport News Shipbuilding employees are volunteering to clean up several areas to commemorate Earth Day. Crews will clean up in front of the shipyard gates (from 37th to 50th streets), the Huntington Park beachfront, Oakland Industrial Park, Bldg. 600, the Newport News Green Foundation’s Sarfan Food Forrest, the Jefferson corridor and the HRT bus terminal.
The cleanup will take place Thursday, April 20, with a rain date of Friday, April 21. The Bldg. 600 cleanup will be held Thursday, April 27, with a rain date of Friday, April 28. Volunteers will meet at their corresponding site location with their site coordinator from 3:30 until 5 p.m., and no charge will be provided.
Volunteers receive a 2023 Earth Day T-shirt, reusable bag, seed packets, reusable straw and other Earth Day goodies. Volunteers also are welcome to meet at Coastal Fermentory after the cleanup for a 10% Earth Day discount.

Annual Earth Day Coloring Contest
The Earth Day coloring contest is for all children (ages 4-17) of HII employees. This year’s Earth Day coloring contest pages are available on the Earth Day website on MyNNS. For your child’s artwork to be considered, the entry form must be filled out completely and sent to the O27 Admin Office (Bldg. 79). One winner from each age group – ages 4-10 and ages 11-17 – will receive a 2023 Earth Day T-shirt, reusable bag and a special prize.
