Walking in Miracles: Striving for Overall Heart Health

Published October 14, 2026

Ramona Johnson (K54) created the Walking in Miracles Heart Walk team because of her passion for exercise, fitness and overall heart health. “To stay healthy, you must take care of your heart,” she said.

Supporting the American Heart Association is personal for Johnson. Her family has faced high blood pressure, high cholesterol and high glucose, so she works hard to maintain her own numbers through yearly checkups, healthy eating and regular exercise.

“I feel my best when I work out, and the adrenaline motivates me to keep improving,” she said.

Her reason for joining the Heart Walk campaign is simple: promoting health awareness.

“We only get one heart, and it’s important to take care of it every day,” Johnson said. “People don’t realize how important it is to take care of your heart.”

Encouraging shipbuilders to engage with NNS Gives programs brings Johnson pride. She consistently reminds others to start exercising, no matter how small the steps.

“Listen to your body and get checked yearly,” she added. “Early detection saves lives.”
