“As a kid, I always looked up to my parents. They were both in the Navy and then became shipbuilders. Watching my parents really pushed me to come here, and all of that history turned into a deep passion of shipbuilding for me. I wanted to do what they did. Right now, I’m working with District of Columbia (SSBN 826) visual work instructions, but I started off on the deck plate of new construction aircraft carriers and was one of the first people to use 3D drawings. Understanding what happens on the waterfront is key to shipbuilding. My mom still works here, but my dad passed away a few years ago. I know he would be proud of what I’ve done.”
The series features shipbuilders’ photos and their brief statements. If you or another shipbuilder you know is interested in being highlighted, email [email protected].
