Dajanelle Linton Robinson
Rigging Apprentice
One year at NNS

“There is a program at Hampton High School called the Academy of Technology and Engineering. A lot of the things I do now as an apprentice, I was already learning in school. The teachers pushed and encouraged me to come to the shipyard. I also play basketball for The Apprentice School and was the MVP for the championship. Basketball taught me how to adapt. You have new girls on the team every year, and as an apprentice you rotate and work with new crews often. I have to be open to everyone, and willing to learn from them, too.”

The series features shipbuilders’ photos and their brief statements. If you or another shipbuilder you know is interested in being highlighted, email [email protected].
