“I came in as a contractor, and my work ethic got me into X11. It was strange coming from 12 years in an office setting to then using my hands and reading drawings. I was a quick learner and, being a woman, determined to represent us. I would never trade that experience for anything because I was so amazed at the submarines. As a kid, I’d pretend to be an engineer and draw pictures of submarines – Momma always had me watching PBS. Now, I manage and maintain training certifications. I still take pride in what I do. We ensure that the shipbuilders are certified and qualified to perform their duties. If someone isn’t certified, it slows down production, so this role is vital to NNS. Knowing that I am making a great contribution to my country is rewarding.”
