Malaya Wilson
Structural Welder
One year at NNS
“My brother inspired me to start here. I needed a career change so I pushed myself to get into the welding school with no prior experience, and I love it. I didn’t think I would, but there is something calming about welding. I want to be a great welder. That means integrity, passion and commitment. For anyone new, it’s going to be a little bit scary but as you go on day to day, you get used to it. Welding supports the Navy, and I feel like I have a purpose. That’s important to have in anything you do.”
The series features shipbuilders’ photos and their brief statements. If you or another shipbuilder you know is interested in being highlighted, email [email protected].
