“When I first got here, I thought I would only be here for five years or so. I was welding and did that for nine years, then moved to transportation and have done that since then. The years added up pretty quickly, but it’s been a good living. I love it because we get to do things for the shipyard that nobody else in the world can do. Part of my job is driving the train, but also training others on how to operate it. Everyone says that they can do it until they try the first time and realize it is harder than they thought. The main thing is to work hard, and treat people right. That’s all we can do, and it makes everything about the shipyard better.”

The series features shipbuilders’ photos and their brief statements. If you or another shipbuilder you know is interested in being highlighted, email [email protected].
