Pamela Setterholm
Structural Engineer; Associate Technical Fellow for Ship Survivability
23 years at NNS
“I was initially set to go to Old Dominion University for engineering right out of high school, but my parents heard about the design co-op program at the shipyard. I looked into it, and it was more aligned with what I was interested in, which was modeling and computer-aided design (CAD). I was able to get a degree and work experience at the same time. It was the best decision because I was hired as a designer after, and later earned my engineering degrees through the company’s tuition reimbursement program. Now, I have the opportunity to serve as an associate technical fellow, and I am the company’s authority on my area of expertise. NNS has helped to open a lot of doors to get me to where I am today. I am really thankful for all of the opportunities along the way.”
The series features shipbuilders’ photos and their brief statements. If you or another shipbuilder you know is interested in being highlighted, email [email protected].
