Outside Machinist Apprentice
Four years at NNS

“I considered the shipyard because both of my parents worked at NASA. My dad did a lot of work with flight simulation, but he’ll never get on an airplane. I wanted to branch off to do my own thing. The Apprentice School is the best of both worlds – I get to work, but I’m also getting an education. The opportunity to participate in sea trials came up, so I took it. I kept a journal of my experiences out there to share with my family and girlfriend. It was also nice not having to cook for myself.”

The series features shipbuilders’ photos and their brief statements. If you or another shipbuilder you know is interested in being highlighted, email [email protected].
