Representatives of the Women in Shipbuilding Enterprise (WiSE) employee resource group took to the green at the inaugural Tee Up for JLHR Golf Tournament, held at the Green Course at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg.

WiSE Chairperson Aysis Belair and member Kathleen Henry provided literature to attendees to raise awareness about Newport News Shipbuilding.

Henry said she “had a great time volunteering” for a great cause.

This inaugural golf tournament was hosted by the Junior League of Hampton Roads. With the help of 68 golfers, sponsors and donors, the event raised $11,000.

The focus for this year’s event was addressing family services and education needs on the Peninsula and continuing training and initiatives that empower women to be leaders and proactive volunteers throughout the community.

Other initiatives include establishing a Little Library in Newport News, facilitating community grants for other nonprofits in the area, and offering scholarships to high school students.
